The Emergency Food and Holiday Support Departments provide food for needy families in an emergency situation. The only requirements are that individuals live within the 19143 zip code, and are able to show appropriate identification (or outside the 19143 Zip, providing they have the applicable referral). Please call for more details.
Thanksgiving, 2006 earmarked another momentous accomplishment in our emergency food efforts. We were successful in feeding almost 17,000 individuals for our Thanksgiving food drive. This just one more milestone in our 40 year history, but it still doesn't eclipse the 25,000 people fed through the efforts of Mrs. Johnson at the Philadelphia Civic Center in 1988. This year, families received their choice of Turkeys, Hams, or Roast Beef. In addition, they also received all the associated trimmings like collard greens, sweet potatos, macaroni and cheese, stuffing, and lots of deserts.
Hunger is a real problem for families, whether unemployed or working poor. Our community has come to rely on the generous donations we give out each year and we hope and pray that this great effort will continue for years to come.
Anyone in need of emergency food, please avoid an unnecessary trip by calling our office first to confirm food availability.
